About these terms

Welcome to ÀjọÈdè, a community-built living dictionary where the Yoruba language lives on. These terms govern your use of the platform. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.

Who can use ÀjọÈdè

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
• You agree to provide accurate account information and to keep your password secure.
• You are responsible for activity that happens on your account.

Your content

You keep ownership of the words, definitions, posts, comments, and media you contribute. By posting, you grant ÀjọÈdè a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and use that content within the platform, including showing it to other users, indexing it for search, and including it in word-of-the-day or community features.

If you delete your account, your posts and comments are anonymized (your name removed) but the content remains so that conversations and shared knowledge stay intact for the community.

Community guidelines

To keep ÀjọÈdè welcoming and useful, you agree not to:

• Post content that is hateful, harassing, threatening, or discriminatory.
• Post sexually explicit content or content harmful to minors.
• Impersonate another person, organization, or group.
• Submit spam, promotional content, or repeated low-quality entries.
• Submit deliberately false definitions, fake words, or misinformation.
• Use the platform for any illegal activity or to violate others' rights.
• Attempt to disrupt the platform, scrape it at scale, or reverse-engineer it.

Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent ban without notice.

Usernames and account names

We reserve the right to reclaim, suspend, rename, or refuse usernames at our discretion. We will typically do so when:

• The username matches a registered trademark held by another party.
• The username matches the name or verified identity of a public figure, governmental body, or recognized institution who wishes to use it.
• The username is held in bad faith (squatting, hate speech, or impersonation).

If we reclaim your username, we will give you a substitute (typically your original handle with a numeric or word suffix) and notify you by email. If you believe a username on the platform should belong to you, contact awa@ajoede.app with a description of your claim.

Verification badge

The verified badge (blue checkmark) is granted at our discretion to accounts of public interest: scholars, cultural institutions, recognized contributors. It is not for sale and is not granted on request.

Moderation

We reserve the right to remove content, hide posts, restrict accounts, or terminate accounts that violate these terms or harm the community. We try to be fair, but we may act without prior notice when needed to protect the platform or its users.

Intellectual property

The ÀjọÈdè name, logo, design, and software are owned by us. You may not copy, modify, or distribute them without permission. You retain rights to content you contribute, subject to the license above.

Copyright (DMCA) takedown

If you believe content on ÀjọÈdè infringes your copyright, send a written notice to awa@ajoede.app with the following information:

• Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed.
• The URL or location of the allegedly infringing content on ÀjọÈdè.
• Your contact information (name, address, phone, email).
• A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner.
• A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and you are authorized to act on the copyright owner's behalf.
• Your physical or electronic signature.

We will review valid notices and remove infringing content where appropriate. If your content was removed in response to a notice you believe is invalid, you may submit a counter-notice to the same email.

Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless ÀjọÈdè and its operators from any claim, demand, loss, or damages (including attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) content you submit to the platform; (b) your use of the service; (c) your violation of these terms; or (d) your violation of any third-party right, including intellectual property or privacy rights.

Disclaimers

ÀjọÈdè is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that definitions are linguistically authoritative. The dictionary is community-built and reflects the contributions of its members. We do not guarantee that the service will always be available or error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ÀjọÈdè and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through the platform. The "last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the terms were last revised. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the new terms.

Termination

You may delete your account at any time from your settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Upon termination, the data-handling rules in our Privacy Policy apply.

Apple App Store additional terms

If you obtained the ÀjọÈdè app from the Apple App Store, these additional terms apply:

• This agreement is between you and ÀjọÈdè only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
• The license granted is limited to a non-transferable license to use the app on any Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.
• Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
• If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, who will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app.
• ÀjọÈdè (not Apple) is responsible for addressing claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal compliance, and consumer protection claims.
• ÀjọÈdè (not Apple) is responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any third-party intellectual property infringement claim.
• You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo and not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
• Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you as a user.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the service will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you consent to that jurisdiction. Nothing in this section limits any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the laws of the country you reside in.

Severability and entire agreement

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect. These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and ÀjọÈdè regarding the service. You may not assign or transfer your account or rights under these terms; we may assign these terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
